The Weeknd Blocks Himself From Earning A New No. 1 Single

The Weeknd sits at number No. 1 on more than half a dozen charts in the United Kingdom this week. The global superstar launches his latest album Hurry Up Tomorrow in first place on every tally it reaches.

As the brand new full-length performs extremely well, several of The Weeknd’s other albums rise following the release of his latest full-length. At the same time, a number of the Canadian musician’s singles are also growing in popularity, as it seems interest in everything in his catalog gains, thanks to the excitement of a new project.

The singer-songwriter even blocks himself from scoring a new No. 1, as one of his latest smashes takes another turn in first place on one chart. “Timeless,” the lead single from Hurry Up Tomorrow, bolts to No. 1 on the Official Hip-Hop and R&B Singles ranking. The tune steps up from No. 4 to the summit on the U.K.’s list of the bestselling tracks in hip-hop, R&B, and rap.

The smash, which features Playboi Carti, has now spent seven non-consecutive weeks at No. 1. The tune has lived on the Official Hip-Hop and R&B Singles chart for 19 total frames, and it has yet to fall outside of the top 10. In fact, only one of those stints has been outside of the top five, as it once descended to No. 6.

As “Timeless” surges back to the summit, The Weeknd debuts a new tune in the runner-up space. “Cry For Me” launches at No. 2 on the Official Hip-Hop and R&B Singles chart, and if things had worked out slightly differently, he'd have added a new No. 1 to his growing list of credits.

“Cry For Me” has been singled out as the most popular track from Hurry Up Tomorrow that wasn’t released prior to the album’s drop. The cut has also been selected as a third single from the set, as it's already been sent to radio stations around the world.

Throughout his career, The Weeknd has now landed 28 top 10 hits on the Official Hip-Hop and R&B Singles chart. Seven of those tracks have hit No. 1.

“Timeless” and “Cry For Me” are the only two songs from Hurry Up Tomorrow to appear on this week’s Official Hip-Hop and R&B Singles chart, though The Weeknd does manage to claim a third position on the list at the same time. “Blinding Lights,” which may be the biggest hit of his career, jumps from No. 25 to No. 20, buoyed, in part, by renewed interest in the Grammy winner's catalogue.

Four other songs featured on Hurry Up Tomorrow debut on at least one chart apiece in the U.K. this week. Tunes like “Wake Me Up” with Justice, “Open Hearts,” “Baptized in Fear,” and “Reflections Laughing” with both Travis Scott and Florence & the Machine land on the list of the most-streamed tracks throughout the country, while half of them also become sales wins as well.

Microsoft Says It Will “Pay Its Way” for AI—Will Communities Buy It?

AI’s latest growth spurt is playing out far from Silicon Valley, in small towns suddenly asked to host massive new server farms that few residents ever see but everyone feels on their utility bills in Network World. Resource‑heavy AI data centers have already sparked organized backlash across the U.S., with projects killed over fears of soaring electricity demand, noise, and water use. Locals who were once sold on “the cloud” as clean and invisible now describe these facilities as industrial pl
