The body of a 58-year-old man was discovered in County Wexford on Tuesday, prompting the opening of a murder investigation.

Shortly after 11:00 local time, the Gardaí (Irish police) and emergency services were summoned to a property in Cluain Fada, New Ross, for an incident.

The man, identified locally as John O'Connor, was discovered unconscious. A moment later, he was declared dead at the spot.

Gardaí said they are treating the death as murder after a post-mortem examination on Wednesday. For operational reasons, the post-mortem's findings are not being made public.

In relation to the incident, two males were taken into custody on Tuesday. There is still one man in his 30s in detention. No charges have been brought against the second man.

The Garda Technical Bureau is still investigating the scene. The Gardaí are urging anyone with camera video or witnesses to get in touch with them.
