Meta/Facebook has announced that a VR version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is in development for the Oculus Quest 2.

“Get a new perspective on Los Santos, San Fierro, and Las Venturas as you experience (again or for the first time) one of gaming’s most iconic open worlds. This is a project many years in the making, and we can’t wait to show you more of it.” said Zuckerberg.

Timing wise, it certainly is an interesting move with the imminent release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. It is unsure if it will use assets from that version, the 2004 original or will create a brand new one. Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg are reportedly working on a project for GTA. Is it related to this project? Unsure, for now.

It will become the second mid-00’s game in recent months to get the VR treatment. Resident Evil 4 VR launched last week for the Oculus Quest 2 headset to almost universal acclaim.

It appears that by the time Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas VR comes out on the headset, it may not even be called the Oculus Quest 2 but Meta Quest instead.
