Bruno Mars Ties Rihanna With 11th No. 1 Hit on Pop Airplay Chart

Bruno Mars has spent more than 15 years racking up huge hits at pop radio throughout the United States. During that time, he’s produced some of the most successful singles in the history of the top 40 airwaves, and he’s not done yet.

The singer-songwriter scores yet another champion this week, and as he adds to his growing collection, he matches several fellow superstars.

“Apt.,” Mars’ collaboration with Blackpink singer Rosé, rises to No. 1 on the Pop Airplay chart this week. The tune ascends from No. 4 to the summit, and it helps the more established of the two musicians make history.

Mars has now earned 11 No. 1 smashes on the Pop Airplay ranking throughout his career. He’s now tied with three other artists for the second-most winners of all time, and he doesn’t have far to go before he matches the top record.

With 11 leaders to his credit, Mars joins Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Maroon 5 in second place. They all come in behind only Taylor Swift, who dominates this historic run with 13 No. 1s on the list of the most successful tunes at radio stations that play top 40 pop across America.

Before “Apt.” jumped into first place, Mars was already tied with several other powerhouses and favorites at pop radio.

Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber are steady with their 10 chart-toppers, though either musician could up that sum again whenever they release more music.

Mars first hit No. 1 on the Pop Airplay ranking in 2010, when he managed to score a pair of leaders. That year, he joined B.O.B. on “Nothin’ on You,” and then a few months later, his own “Just the Way You Are” took a turn on top.

It’s only been about two months since Mars added his tenth No. 1 to his catalog. “Die with a Smile,” his duet with Lady Gaga, sang its way to the penthouse in November 2024.

That tune currently leads the Hot 100, and it also appears in fourth place on the Pop Airplay tally.

Mars has controlled the pop radio ranking with all of the following singles: “Nothin’ on You” with B.O.B., “Just the Way You Are,” “Grenade,” “It Will Rain,” “Locked Out of Heaven,” “When I Was Your Man,” “Uptown Funk” with Mark Ronson, “That’s What I Like,” “Finesse” with Cardi B, “Die with a Smile” with Lady Gaga, and now “Apt.” with Rosé.

On top of his 11 No. 1s, the Grammy winner has seen eight other songs reach the top 10, but not quite lead the charge.

However, festivals of this scale routinely prepare for last-minute contingencies. In this case, online conversation filled that uncertainty gap and turned quickly toward speculation about possible substi
