In a historic performance, the Arizona State Sun Devils claimed their first Big 12 Championship with a commanding 45-19 victory over the Iowa State Cyclones in Arlington, Texas. With the win, Arizona State solidified their spot in the College Football Playoff, capping off a remarkable season under head coach Kenny Dillingham.

Dominance on Both Sides of the Ball

The Sun Devils left no doubt in their championship showdown, showcasing a balanced attack and stifling defense. Quarterback Jaden Rashada was the star of the game, throwing for 310 yards and three touchdowns while adding another score on the ground. The freshman phenom, who has been at the heart of Arizona State’s resurgence, looked poised beyond his years in the biggest game of his young career.

The Sun Devils’ rushing attack was equally impressive. Running back Cameron Skattebo punished the Cyclone defense with 125 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Meanwhile, wide receiver Elijhah Badger contributed with 102 receiving yards and a spectacular 40-yard touchdown catch that broke the game wide open in the third quarter.

Defensively, Arizona State frustrated Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht, forcing two interceptions and sacking him four times. Defensive end B.J. Green II led the charge with 2.5 sacks, while linebacker Tre Brown sealed the victory with a pick-six in the fourth quarter.

A Season to Remember

This victory is the culmination of a dream season for Arizona State, who finished the regular season with an 11-1 record. After joining the Big 12 this year as part of the conference’s realignment, many questioned whether the Sun Devils could handle the tougher competition. Those doubts were erased as they navigated a grueling schedule, securing statement wins against Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and Kansas State.

“This is just the beginning,” said Coach Dillingham after the game. “Our guys bought in from day one, and they’ve shown what hard work, belief, and execution can accomplish. We’re not done yet.”

Looking Ahead to the College Football Playoff

With the Big 12 Championship in hand, Arizona State now turns its attention to the College Football Playoff. Ranked fourth in the latest CFP rankings, the Sun Devils are poised to face a top contender in the semifinals.

The win also marks a significant milestone for the program, as it seeks to establish itself among college football’s elite. For a school that hadn’t won a conference title since 2007 or appeared in a national title picture since the 1996 Rose Bowl season, this year’s accomplishments signify a bright future.

Iowa State’s Grit Falls Short

Despite the loss, Iowa State deserves credit for reaching the Big 12 title game. The Cyclones, led by head coach Matt Campbell, entered the game on a six-game winning streak but were unable to keep pace with Arizona State’s explosive offense. Running back Abu Sama tallied 95 rushing yards and a touchdown, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Sun Devils’ relentless pressure.

What’s Next for the Sun Devils?

As the College Football Playoff matchups are revealed, Arizona State fans are buzzing with excitement. Whether they face Michigan, Washington, or another powerhouse, the Sun Devils have proven they can compete on the sport’s biggest stage.

Arizona State’s win not only cements their status as Big 12 champions but also positions them as a rising force in college football. The Sun Devils are no longer just participants in the national conversation—they’re contenders.
