Kendrick Lamar’s Surprise Album GNX Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200

Kendrick Lamar’s surprise album GNX has stormed to the top of the all-genre Billboard 200 chart, marking his fifth consecutive No. 1 debut. The album opened with an impressive 319,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. during the week ending November 28, according to Luminate, securing the sixth-largest debut of 2024.

Of the 319,000 units, streaming dominated the tally with 285,000 SEA units, translating to 379.72 million on-demand official streams of the album’s 12 tracks. Traditional album sales accounted for 32,000 units, while TEA units added another 2,000.

GNX follows Lamar’s 2022 release, Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, which debuted at No. 1 with 295,000 units in its first week. This latest project features production from Jack Antonoff, Sounwave, and others, and marks a significant shift for Lamar as his first album released outside of his longtime labels, Top Dawg Entertainment and Aftermath Entertainment.

Lamar’s consistent chart dominance continues to solidify his status as one of the most impactful artists of his generation.
