Former My Chemical Romance Drummer Bob Bryar Dies at 44

Bob Bryar, best known as the longest-serving drummer of the rock band My Chemical Romance, has passed away at the age of 44. According to TMZ, Bryar was found dead in his Tennessee home on Tuesday, November 26, after being last seen earlier this month. Authorities have confirmed there is no suspicion of foul play, and none of Bryar’s belongings, including musical equipment and firearms, were reported missing.

Animal control reportedly removed two dogs from the property after Bryar’s body was discovered. The cause of death has not yet been determined.

A representative for My Chemical Romance released a statement to Billboard, asking for “patience and understanding” as the band processes the loss.

Bryar joined My Chemical Romance in 2004, replacing original drummer Matt Pelissier while the band was touring with The Used. His contributions were pivotal during the band’s ascent to fame, particularly on their landmark albums Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge and The Black Parade. The latter reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in 2006 and solidified the band’s status in the rock world.

Although he contributed to the band’s 2010 album Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, Bryar left before its release. Guitarist Frank Iero described the split as “a painful decision for all of us,” expressing well wishes for Bryar’s future.

After departing from the band, Bryar retired from the music industry and pursued a career in real estate. He also dedicated himself to supporting dog rescue organizations and animal sanctuaries, reflecting his passion for animal welfare.

Earlier this month, My Chemical Romance announced a 2025 stadium tour celebrating The Black Parade, where they plan to perform the album in its entirety. Bryar was not slated to appear in the lineup. The tour kicks off on July 11, 2025, in Seattle.

Fans and the music community continue to mourn Bryar’s loss, remembering his contributions to one of the most influential bands of the 2000s.
