Kendrick Lamar Surprises Fans with New Album ‘GNX,’ Featuring SZA, Jack Antonoff, and Kamasi Washington

Kendrick Lamar has dropped a surprise new album titled GNX, featuring an impressive lineup of collaborators including SZA, Jack Antonoff, and Kamasi Washington. The 12-track album showcases contributions from several artists, with SZA appearing on “Luther” and “Gloria.” Other featured artists include Sam Dew, Roddy Ricch, Bobby Hawk, Ink, and more. The album also includes “Heart Pt. 6,” continuing his ongoing series that made headlines earlier this year when Drake used the title for one of his diss tracks amid their public feud.

Speculation about Lamar’s new project had been building for months, and earlier this week, DJ Snake hinted that Mustard had contributed to several tracks and teased a surprise Taylor Swift appearance. However, Swift does not appear on the final release.

Lamar also addresses his much-debated Super Bowl Halftime Show performance on the opening track “Wacced Out Murals.” The performance, which took place in New Orleans, sparked online criticism from some who felt that Lil Wayne should have been the one to take the stage. Lamar reflects on the moment, rapping, “I used to bump ‘Tha Carter 3,’ I held my Rollie chain proud / Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down / Got the Super Bowl and Nas the only one congratulate me, all these n—s agitated, I’m just glad it’s on they faces.”

GNX arrives at the tail end of a monumental year for Lamar, who made waves in the spring with his ongoing feud with Drake. He also released several singles, including “Euphoria,” “Meet the Grahams,” and “Not Like Us,” with the latter becoming his most chart-topping track. Recently, Not Like Us was nominated for Song of the Year and Record of the Year, further cementing Lamar’s ongoing dominance in the music industry.
